From the second best-selling electric car in France in 2023 with almost 30,000 customers to 17th last year (5,100 examples), the trajectory of the Dacia Spring is no one’s envy. But if the figures are indisputable, they do not explain everything. Thus, this bad year remains above all the result of deliberately reduced marketing. Pending the arrival of the restyled version around the middle of the year, Dacia has almost stopped imports of Spring from Shiyan (China)where this descendant of Renault City K-ZE has been assembled since its beginnings. And even if the little Romanian now has to face a competitive Citroën ë-C3 and a Leapmotor T03 – especially the Citroën thanks to its CO2 bonus – there is no need to predict disaster at the Spring in 2025. Faced with increasingly more adversaries pressing, Dacia reacted, as could be expected and today revealed a new version of its electric city car at €16,900, still deprived of ecological bonus in France since manufactured in the Middle Kingdom.
Dacia Spring 2025 at €16,900: concessions to make
This new version is not really one since it is the return of an engine which had disappeared during the restyling. In this case the 45 hp version, which can now be associated with the entry-level Essential finish, also evacuated mid-2024. And if this Spring 2025 certainly takes care of the wallets of its buyers, it is still regressing in terms of services. Pass again for the 20 hp less, since due to a very average chassis, the lack of power will not be a real problem for urban and a little peri-urban use. But to live, this Spring premier prize revives old forgotten standards. Because to keep its floor price of €16,900, the Spring is giving up on many essential equipment. Forget air conditioning – a Sandero or a Kia Picanto do not come as standard either – and even electric windows! Omissions that are all the more damaging given that due to European legislation, the cheapest Spring is necessarily equipped with automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, overspeed alert, lane change, lane keeping assistance or even the driver attention monitoring system and emergency call (eCall)…
In terms of more frequently used equipment, the Spring Essential offers at least a 7-inch digital dashboard, Bluetooth and an essential USB port to transform your smartphone into a multimedia system (radio, streaming music). Everyone will judge according to their needs, but with this new Spring Essential 45 hp at €16,900, Dacia symbolically regains the title of manufacturer which offers the cheapest electric car on the market without state aid. In addition to Leapmotor’s discount operations, the next threat to the Spring will come from a Citroën ë-C3 with a small battery, promised below €20,000 this year. It’s hard to imagine it becoming less expensive than the Spring “45”, but its better road performance could still justify a small budget increase.
