Opposition party leaders have reacted to the resignation of Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre was the first to comment on his departure in a video broadcast on the the departure of Justin Trudeau.
“But what has really changed? Every Liberal MP, minister and leadership candidate has helped Justin Trudeau break this country over the past nine years, he continued. All these Liberal politicians actively helped Justin Trudeau raise taxes. All voted or actively supported Justin Trudeau’s out-of-control spending, out-of-control debt and out-of-control immigration.”
For him, this future change of leader within the Liberal caucus is not with the objective of serving citizens.
“Their only objection is that Trudeau is no longer popular and he can no longer win elections,” he maintains. Above all, it is power. They want to protect their pensions and paychecks by hiding their hated leader under the rug in order to fool Canadians months before the election.”
The Bloc and the NDP
For his part, Yves-François Blanchet believes that “Prime Minister Trudeau made the right decision by deciding to leave office and to predetermine the future of things a little so that we have a minimum of predictability,” he said. he mentioned in a press briefing.
He also believes that Quebecers will take stock of the Liberal government “with great severity” and that general elections must be called at the end of the extension period which extends until March 26.
“This government has survived artificially thanks to an agreement that produced nothing interesting with the NDP for so long. There is no reason that could justify this government remaining in office even longer than the minimum necessary to appoint a new leader,” he adds.
Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party, issued a statement on X.
“Justin Trudeau has let you down, again,” he wrote. He let you down on the cost of housing and groceries. He failed you on your health. No matter who leads the Liberals, they don’t deserve another chance.”
He also said that “now the Conservatives dream of cutting health care and giving even more power to the CEO” and that “their cuts will cost you dearly for a long time” in the event of the election of a government conservative in the next federal election which should take place in the spring.
