New graphics cards and processors: AMD announcements for gamers that you shouldn’t miss at CES

Every year, tech is in the spotlight at CES, an event not to be missed for fans of new technologies. And how could we not consider CES 2025 without AMD and NVIDIA! This evening, AMD is opening the ball with a presentation that should make gamers around the world excited: its new graphics cards and processors.

Every year, it’s the same story, the New Year festivities quickly give way to another major event taking place in Las Vegas: CES. This unmissable event for tech enthusiasts has just opened its doors again to reveal to the whole world the innovations that will punctuate this new year. On the program, we will find both connected devices to make daily life at home easier as well as slightly more sophisticated products like processors and graphics cards.

Summary

  • New graphics cards: AMD Radeon RX 9070, RX 9070 XT and introduction of FSR 4
  • New gaming processors for desktop PCs: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D emerges as the best gaming processor
  • New APUs for laptops: Ryzen AI MAX
  • New chips for portable game consoles

It is also the latter which will largely capture our attention this evening since it is AMD which has just taken the floor to present its new graphics cards and processors. Obviously, these announcements are of particular interest to gamers, which is why we decided to give you a recap of everything you need to remember from AMD’s various presentations during this CES.

New graphics cards: AMD Radeon RX 9070, RX 9070 XT and introduction of FSR 4

This year, AMD seems to be leaving aside the logic it has maintained for several years regarding the nomenclature of its graphics cards. While many expected Radeon RX 8000 graphics cards to arrive, AMD finally announced to us outside of the conference an RX 9070 as well as an RX 9070 XT.

The reason for this change is quite simple: it will now be easier to compare AMD’s GPUs with NVIDIA’s proposals with a more or less similar name.

Thus, the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT will steal the show from the RX 7800 XT, RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 GRE. It will be abouta generation of graphics cards working with the new RDNA 4 architectureengraved in 4 nanometers, and equipped with better performance in terms of Ray-Tracing.

On the AI side, this new generation of graphics cards also includes, exclusively, FSR 4 (Fidelity Super Resolution). This is the big news presented by AMD and it’s enough to give NVIDIA’s DLSS a few chills. The operation of FSR 4 is essentially the same as that of DLSS since it is an upscaling technology. The user will thus be able to benefit frombetter image rendering thanks to an artificial increase of the latter based on machine learning.

As a reminder, here is a summary table of the latest announcements concerning the Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070:

New gaming processors for desktop PCs: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D emerges as the best gaming processor

Two major processors have just been presented by NVIDIA. This is the Ryzen 9900X3D as well as Ryzen 9950X3Dand they are both designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding gamers and content creators.

During its presentation, AMD did not mince its words: The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is the best 16-core gaming processor to date. Jack Huynh even ventured into a comparison with Intel’s Lunar Lake CPUs: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D significantly outperforms the 285K by +20%.

New graphics cards and processors: AMD announcements for gamers that you shouldn't miss at CES

This new generation of processor was referred to for months under the name “Strix Halo”. It is abouta processor that integrates a GPU part (graphics card) and which will mainly be found inside laptop PCs. In terms of performance, these new processors simply crush so-called “entry-level” graphics cards and they will be capable of running recent, relatively low-power games in Full HD.

The Ryzen AI MAX are classified into two different groups. On the one hand, we have a range intended for the general public, and on the other hand a “Pro” range which targets professionals.

New chips for portable game consoles

Video games on portable consoles are also one of AMD’s major concerns. After a Z1 chip which convinced players, the brand is launching the Z2 chip. The latter will be integrated into several portable consoles, including some which have already established a certain notoriety such as the Legion Go from Lenovo or the ROG Ally from Asus but not from Valve’s Steam Deck.
