Davis Cup: Félix Auger-Aliassime will not be in Montreal, but the other big guns will

Like last year, Félix Auger-Aliassime made the decision not to travel to Montreal to play the first round of the Davis Cup. But the other big guns of the Canadian delegation, Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo, will be there.

The team led by captain Frank Dancevic will face Hungary on February 1 and 2, on an indoor court at the IGA stadium.

Outre Shapovalov (58e) and Diallo (87e), Canada will be able to count on the presence of Alexis Galarneau (200e), by Liam Draxl (246e) et de Vasek Pospisil (727e).

Tougher this time

Last year, the absence of Félix – still ranked 29ethis week – in the first round did not prevent Canada from triumphing 3 to 1 at the expense of South Korea. It was then Diallo, Galarneau and Pospisil who held the fort.

Hungary should, however, prove to be a tougher opponent. It has two players among the top 100 in the world this week, Fabian Maroszan (57e) and Marton Fucsovics (100e).

The Canadians reached the final round of the tournament last year, where they fell to Germany in the quarterfinals.
