Pure glamor
If sequins are so popular, it’s because they function as shortcuts: towards glamour, escape and the artificial world of show business. Unlike diamonds, they have no value, but produce value instantly. These plastic or metallic shards have the power to create the illusion of something much greater than the sum of their parts. Viola Davis, Nicole Kidman, Mindy Kaling, Mikey Madison, Zoe Saldaña et Cara Delevingne understood it well. They wore head-to-toe glitter this year. But these are Angelina Jolie in Alexander McQueen et Felicity Jones in Prada who shone the most during the 2025 Golden Globes ceremony. The first wore a composition of silver chains, while the second sported a creation adorned with pieces of mirror and crystals.

A glitter is first and foremost a spotlight. It invites then refracts the gaze into a thousand particles, making the light bounce around its wearer as if they were caught in a swarm of paparazzi. It’s impossible to hide in the dizzying glow of these attention-grabbing records. Sequins are useful for getting noticed. Let’s remember the artist’s words Leigh Bowery about glitter: “If I can’t project light, I can at least reflect it.”
