It’s official: the fire which ravaged more than 1,000 hectares of vegetation in the Prony plain is now under control. However, the area remains under close surveillance.
“We speak of controlled fire when the fire no longer evolves, when we have become master of the fire“, explains Captain Eddy Aïta, commander of relief operations carried out in the Prony plain. Since 1is January, firefighters fight against a fire caused by a barbecue lit by campers at Petite Rivière Bleue. More than 1,000 hectares of vegetation went up in smoke, the equivalent of 1,500 football fields.
However, the area remains under surveillance. The 24 firefighters, still mobilized this Sunday, January 5, mapped it and reviewed the edges and residual hot spots.
The water bomber helicopter and eleven machines will remain on site for several more days to allow rapid intervention in the event of resumption, including in isolated locations.
As a reminder, the use of fire is prohibited until March 31 at Mont-Dore.
