These are the words that Météo begins its daily bulletin this Sunday, January 5, 2025. The day before, around thirty departments were placed on orange alert for snow and ice alerts. A phenomenon which has also caused numerous accidents, including at least one death in Côte-d’Or.

From now on, no department is affected by an alert concerning snow. There are still 42 departments in yellow for wind, rain, flooding or even avalanche risk.

Warm weather before the fall

The weather is getting warmer at the end of the weekend, with a fairly clear rise in temperatures: between 7 and 12 degrees this morning, up to 17 this afternoon. “Between Saturday and Sunday, the rise in temperatures will be spectacular over three-quarters of France with a jump of 10°C in 24 hours,” note the Météo-Villes meteorologists.

Temperatures which are likely to drop again once the weekend is over, if certain models are to be believed.

Rain almost everywhere this Sunday

That said, “over a good northern third of France, the morning continues with rainy weather with more marked precipitation in the north-east and the south of ”, warns Météo France. Almost everywhere in the territory, from the Mediterranean regions to the Massif Central, from Brittany to Hauts-de-France, even in the Cévennes, rainy precipitation is expected.

Strong gale predicted: heading towards a storm?

“Everywhere else, the sky is changeable, sometimes bright despite numerous high-altitude clouds,” adds Météo France, which also mentions a gale of wind to come.

Gusts notably reach 60 to 80 km/h from Brittany to Flanders, 70 to 90 km/h to the west of the Pyrenees with possible surge in the Basque Country. In the south of the Massif Central and Lyonnais in Val de Saône, the southerly wind is also strengthening: gusts approach 100 km/h during the night from Sunday to Monday from Haute-Loire to the south of and on the Prealps

Weather France

According to some models, gusts of up to 130 km/h are expected. Here and there is mention of a coming storm from Spain. According to counting the names of weather phenomenathe latter should be named Floriane, if she is indeed named.
