Israel and Hamas at war
Shortly before Donald Trump’s return to the White House, scheduled for January 20, the American administration of Joe Biden announced this Saturday an arms sale to Israel, estimated at $8 billion. It still needs to be approved by Congress. This sale notably includes anti-aircraft defense ammunition, according to a source close to the matter.
“Israel has the right to defend its citizens”
Before his departure from the Oval Office, the outgoing American president once again brushes aside the pressure put on him by certain human rights organizations and elected Democrats who oppose such sales to Israel. “The President made clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens, in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, and to deter aggression from Iran and its affiliated organizations.”declared the previously cited source.
During a speech to Congress in November, left-wing elected official Bernie Sanders pleaded for an end to these arms sales. “The United States is complicit in all of these atrocities. We are financing these atrocities and this complicity must end.”he declared.

President-elect Donald Trump has pledged unwavering support for Israel, and unlike all recent presidents, he has never committed to an independent, sovereign Palestinian state. But the Republican also expressed his desire to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Despite intense diplomatic efforts led by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, no truce has been concluded since the one-week truce at the end of November 2023.
More than 30 people were killed by Israeli strikes on Saturday, according to the Gaza emergency services, the day after Hamas announced the resumption of negotiations in Doha (Qatar) for a truce in the Palestinian territory devastated by nearly 15 months of war.
