Five years after the death of the deliveryman, which occurred two days after a rigorous check, the police officers involved will finally be judged in Paris court.
They gathered at the same place where Cédric Chouviat lost his life. There were relatives, friends and family. Five years after the death of the deliveryman, killed during a police intervention, a trial should take place. A satisfaction for his father: “Cédric was not a delinquent, he was a poor courier who was making his rounds. (…) They killed him, it’s an assassination”. In January 2020, while making deliveries in the capital, Cédric Chouviat was arrested by police officers. The control degenerates, he is pinned to the ground. Asphyxiated, he died two days later in hospital.
This case had become, for some, the symbol of police violence. Three officials are referred to justice. They will be tried at the Paris court. A first victory for the family lawyer: “This is the outcome that was expected. We have been fighting alongside the family for five years now to ensure that this judicial investigation progresses”. The family, however, contests the classification of the facts as “manslaughter”. A version contested by the police officers involved. The lawyer for two of them says they have appealed the decision to hold a trial.
