The Montreal Canadian played in Colorado the sixth and final game of his trip abroad this evening. For the occasion, it was Jakub Dobes who was in front of the Habs net, and like his match against the Florida Panthers, he shone against Nathan MacKinnon and his gang, winning the match in shots from dam.
It was another big challenge facing the 23-year-old Czech goalkeeper. Indeed, after defeating the reigning Stanley Cup champions by shutout, he now had to face the 2022 champions, who count in their ranks the NHL’s leading scorer in Nathan MacKinnon. In the end, Dobes held the fort and conceded only one goal to the Avalanche, thus achieving a first in the history of the Montreal Canadiens.
Indeed, according to what Sportsnet Stats reported on X, this is the first time in team history that a goalie has allowed a single goal in his first two NHL starts. On December 28, Dobes became the first Habs rookie goalie since Yann Danis in 2005 to get a shutout in his first start in the Bettman circuit.
All in all, it’s a major feat that the Canadian and Dobes accomplished by beating the Avalanche this evening. Indeed, the team arrived late in Denver after the match the day before, in Chicago, and inflicted a first defeat this season on Jared Bednar’s squad when they had the lead after two periods. The team will return home on Monday after winning four of their six road games.
