TGL: The Future of Golf on the Horizon
The Tomorrow Golf League, led by the illustrious Tiger Woods and the charismatic Rory McIlroy, will launch its inaugural season this Tuesday at the SoFi Center, a state-of-the-art 23,000 square meter facility located at Palm Beach State College. This project, developed by the TMRW Sports Group, collaborates with the PGA Tour to guarantee high-level competition.
What sets the TGL apart is the composition of its six teams, each featuring four PGA Tour golfers. To enrich the spectator experience, players will be equipped with microphones during matches, providing unprecedented insight into their strategies and emotions. The regular season will consist of 15 matches, which will take place in a specially designed arena between early January and early March.
At the end of this regular phase, the four best teams will have the opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals, scheduled for March 17 and 18. The winners of these matchups will then compete to win the SoFi Cup in a best-of-three final, scheduled for March 24-25.
Here’s everything you need to know about the TGL before kickoff on January 7:
What is TGL?
The TGL, an acronym for Tomorrow’s Golf League, represents an innovative golf league integrating technological elements. Its goal is to marry the latest advances in golf technology with live competitions.
According to Woods, the TGL aims to “bring a modern, fast-paced twist to the game we all cherish.” This will include a game clock, timeouts, as well as team and individual meetings.
How do TGL matches take place?
Each TGL match is a showcase of skill and strategy, during which two intense sessions follow one another. The first session is played in an alternating “triples” format, with nine holes in play. In the second session, golfers compete individually over six holes, with each player playing two holes, all under the pressure of a 40-second timer – any infraction will result in a one-stroke penalty.
Each hole is worth one point, and in the event of a tie at the end of regulation time, the teams will face off in overtime. Players will then take turns, and the team whose shot comes closest to the flag will be declared the winner.
Where will the TGL take place?
TGL matches will take place at the SoFi Center, a purpose-built arena in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where six teams comprised of four PGA Tour golfers will compete in two-hour matches.
How to watch TGL?
If you want to follow the TGL action, know that every match will be easily accessible. Whether you prefer television or streaming, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+ will broadcast the entire season, allowing you to not miss any of the competitions.
TGL matches will also be available to stream on Fubo, which offers a free trial.
Will Tiger Woods compete in the TGL?
Tiger Woods will be joined by Max Homa, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner in the Jupiter Links GC team, announced on April 22.
