Right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton agreed to a one-year, $15 million US deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
The 41-year-old veteran, hero of Game 7 of the 2017 World Series with the Houston Astros, will try to fill a need in the Orioles rotation. This will be his 18th campaign in major baseball.
The Orioles also signed Japanese pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano to a one-year, $13 million contract earlier this offseason.
The Baltimore team lost its best pitcher for 2024, Corbin Burnes, who signed a $210 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks in December.
Morton is 138-123 in the majors. He was 8-10 with a 4.19 ERA last season with the Atlanta Braves.
He is part of a group of only four pitchers to have made at least 30 starts in every season since 2018, excluding the COVID-19 shortened season. Jose Berrios, Patrick Corbin and Aaron Nola are the other three.
In addition to the Braves and Astros, Morton played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Orioles have made the playoffs the last two campaigns, but have been swept in the first round each time.
