During the fourth ordinary session 2024 of the Wilaya Popular Assembly (APW), held Thursday January 2 in the conference room of the wilaya, the head of the executive, Houria Aggoune, announced that the public authorities had given their green light for the rehabilitation of the airfield in the municipality of Belkheir, located near the capital. This infrastructure, located on the grounds of the former Abdelmadjid Richi pilot farm – today a performance agricultural center – will be mainly dedicated to hosting helicopters as part of firefighting, one of the priorities of the authorities to preserve human lives and plant cover. The history of this aerodrome dates back to the colonial era, where it served as a base for French army aircraft during the War of National Liberation. After independence, the site experienced a new vocation thanks to flying club enthusiasts, who practiced their leisure there on training planes. The land was then transferred to the agricultural sector and integrated into the Abdelmadjid Richi pilot farm, which stood out for the excellence of its yields. This rebirth of the aerodrome represents a major asset for the future of the Guelma region. .
