After a long wait, the long-awaited launch of the new TGL tech league presented by SoFi is finally upon us. This dynamic team golf league, founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy with their company TMRW Sports in conjunction with the PGA TOUR, will debut Tuesday, January 7 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN+.

Fans will be able to get a taste of this event during a one-hour special broadcast on ABC, scheduled for Sunday, January 5 at 2 p.m.

Scott Van Pelt (host), Matt Barrie (lead commentator) and Marty Smith (reporter) will lead the ESPN broadcast team for Tuesday night’s launch and throughout the season. In addition to live streaming the game, Barrie will co-host the 2 p.m. edition of ESPN each week, SportsCenterfrom the TGL website.

After the flagship event of The Sentry, which marked the start of the 2025 season, the first meeting of the TGL on January 7 will pit New York Golf Club (Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler) against Bay Golf Club (Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry). These two teams, among the youngest in the TGL, face each other in a promising duel. Schauffele, who is coming off an exceptional season with two major victories, will compete against Fitzpatrick, Clark and Lowry, all former major champions.

The first season of the TGL features six teams, each made up of four PGA TOUR stars. During each match, three players from each team will be present. The full season will air exclusively on ESPN’s platforms, including 15 regular season games, playoffs and a best-of-three final to win the SoFi Cup, scheduled for March 24-25.

TGL matches will take place mainly in the evening, on Mondays and Tuesdays, with an approximate duration of two hours. Merging golf with technology in a never-before-seen way, TGL will be held at the SoFi Center, a 250,000-square-foot resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The technology put in place for the TGL will allow live broadcasting of each shot; a timer requiring teams to play within 40 seconds; unprecedented audio access to hear all the players through microphones; advanced shot data; a production plan integrating robotic and field-integrated cameras; as well as a high-tech indoor lighting and video presentation.

The second match of the season, scheduled for Tuesday, January 14 (ESPN, 7 p.m.), will mark Woods’ debut with his Jupiter Links team (Kevin Kisner, Max Homa and Tom Kim) against Los Angeles Golf Club (Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose).

ESPN+ will also be the broadcaster of PGA TOUR LIVE in 2025, offering fans more than 4,300 live and exclusive hours covering 35 tournaments in 2024, including all eight flagship TOUR events and at least 28 tournaments with four full days of coverage and four simultaneous live streams each day.
