We all have a favorite club in our bag and that goes hand in hand with a hated club. This is also the case for PGA Tour player, Sahith Theegala, as he explained this Friday, January 3 in the quarter of an hour spent alongside Smylie Kaufman on Golf Channel.
Guest of “Happy Hour” at Sentry in Maui (Hawaii Islands), Sahith Theegala was revived by the former player Smylie Kaufman on how he put together his bag this fall.
After explaining that he did not own a 3-wood, he confided that he took a 5-wood and a 9-wood with him on the course! He also has a funny hybrid to which he gave the name “Frank“ ! (like the wood cover of Tiger Woods in ads from the 2000s).
Then he admitted that he was now considering putting two drivers in his bag. A bit like Phil Mickelson a year at Masters.
« Honestly, it all comes from the fact that I love to have fun playing golfTheegala told Kaufman. My friends and I are always thinking about how I can have more fun. Today, my driver is set up so that it is impossible for me to miss to the left. »
-These choices are validated only if it turns out that it really brings something to his game on the course and that this is reflected in the score.
The banned 7
Number 3 of the last FedEx Cup is a sensational player and the most surprising feature of his bag concerns the presence of two 8 irons!
And why will you tell us? Because Theegala never felt comfortable with a 7-iron. “My least favorite club in my bag. It’s been like this since I was little. »
In another interview in September, Theegala explained that he had hit so many bad shots in a short time with the 7 iron (including sockets, at FedEx St Jude then in Colorado BMW Championship during the FedEx Cup Playoffs) that he asked his equipment supplier, Pingto scratch the “7” on his club and put an “8” in a different font. When he asks his caddy about this club, he uses the term “8+”.
