On the night of December 29 to 30, a violent accidental fire caused the death of two people, and three people were seriously injured in St-Médard-en-Jalles (Gironde). Since then, help has been organized, supporting victims who are still in shock.

The facade bears witness to the strength of the flames. Soot covers the four floors of this residential building in Saint-Médard en Jalles. Almost a week after the disaster, solidarity is being organized.
“They brought me clothes, food, what I needed to shower, everythingsays Jocelyne Bessières. My wish is that I be rehoused quickly, and that they at least bring back my papers, and I would like to see the condition of the apartment.“
This woman cannot access her damaged apartment. Like the other inhabitants, she can only wait. “At the moment, there are structural studies on this building, asbestos and structure, to verify that people can come back to collect their belongings.explains the mayor, Stéphane Delpeyrat-Vincent (DVG).

The fire, probably accidental, broke out during the night of December 29 to 30. “My mother called me at 11:23 p.m. to tell me there was a fire at her neighbor’s house.“, relates Stéphanie Bessières. The toll is two dead and three seriously injured.
“It’s hard. We don’t sleep, we don’t eat… I live in a building… there. I didn’t sleep before 6 a.m., because even I’m afraid that it burns in my house. I don’t want to stay here, and we are told that we have to stay several months before anything is done.”
Secours populaire provided clothing to the families. A solidarity which was organized on social networks and made it possible to collect what was necessary to help these victims of the fire.
