The Reds welcome United to Anfield on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. GMT and will look to complete a Premier League double against the opposition, after the reverse fixture at Old Trafford ended 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
In his notes for the official program for the day, Liverpool captain Van Dijk wrote: “Every game is important when you play for this club, but of course a game at Anfield against United has extra meaning for the fans.
“We understand this rivalry and we know there will be a special atmosphere, which we will look to use to our advantage as we go for three points.
“Make no mistake, this will be a tough test. We know United are not where they would have liked to be in the table and have had a difficult start to the season, but they still have top players. It is therefore important that we are focused from the first whistle
.
“We know what success comes from. Quality, for sure, but also humility, sacrifice, work ethic and friendliness. If we always keep this in mind, these are the things that will take us to where we want to be.
-“The platform we have given ourselves over the first few months of the season is clear, but we must move forward now.
“We don’t look at the standings or count the points we haven’t earned yet. We only focus on the next match, the next challenge. Consistency is essential, day after day and match after match.
“I wrote in my previous program notes, before the Leicester match [City]on how we could look to 2024 in a positive way and I stand by that.
“But 2025 is here, and we absolutely want to start the new year since we finished the last one, with three points in our pocket and big smiles on our faces. »
