Langnau is indeed the bane of Friborg-Gotteron. The Emmentalois won in overtime on Friday at the BCF Arena (4-5) at the end of a match rich in twists and turns, thus completing their perfect record this season against dragons that can feed regrets.
In ice hockey, it is often said that everything is a matter of confidence. This was verified during the first third. On the one hand, Langnau, which remained on six losses in seven matches, achieved a good period but overlooked all its chances of goal. On the other hand, Friborg, in full swing, has shown cynical realism.
Sandro Schmid (9th, 1-0), superbly served by Marcus Sörensen, and Jakob Lilja (19th, 2-0), the most prompt on a trained puck, made the nets tremble to the delight of the 9262 spectators. The Swedish (26th, 3-0) registered his second personal success and allowed Gottéron to take over.
In view of the score and domination of the men of Lars Leuenberger at this moment, the outcome of the game seemed to be a formality. Except that Friborg has decided, perhaps to play with the nerves of its supporters, to go back in time. And to go back a little more than a month back, before the holidays, when he liked to give gifts.
How can we explain these two errors otherwise in mid-match? First the loss of Puck de Jacob de la Rose which led to the goal of Flavio Schmutz (27th, 3-1). Then a disagreement in the offensive zone between Linden Vey and Jakob Lilja who took advantage of Joel Salzgeber (30th, 3-2), who left behind the defense. Before the siren, Marcus Sörensen (40th, 4-2) gave air to his family
But rebelote to the third third. Friborg-Gottéron fell asleep and the dead time requested by Lars Leuenberger (48th) has not changed anything. He let the Emmentalois equalize in 72 seconds by Sean Malone (51st, 4-3) and Julian Schmutz (52nd, 4-4). The dragons drank the chalice to the lery in overtime with the goal of Aleksi Saarela (63rd, 4-5).
Friborg-Gottéron travels to Bienne on Saturday.
