Sad law of series in Tarn-et-Garonne. A new house caught fire in Montauban on Friday evening. The family who lived there were fortunately not injured. This is the third home to be destroyed following a fire in the department in a few days.
This Saturday morning, despite the rain, smoke is still escaping from the roof… In their gutted and partly charred house, Laurent and Christine, the owners, take stock. “We try to save what we can,” says the father.
Friday evening, he and his wife, as well as his two daughters Camille and Angélique from a first union, are at home, when the fuses blow for the first time. “I turned the power back on,” he explains. “But it went out again,” says the Montalban resident. But when he goes back to look at the electric meter, it’s already too late. Flames are spreading and the family immediately alerts the firefighters.
It was not yet 11 p.m. when they received the distress call. “They arrived very quickly,” continues Laurent, but the fire attacked the attic and the roof.
Firefighters will deploy 3 hoses and 33 men to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring houses. If the mission is fulfilled, the pavilion of nearly 250 m2 is partially destroyed. In any case, it has become uninhabitable. “The roof risks collapsing,” regrets Laurent, who thinks that the house will have to be completely razed.
Her daughters were rehoused with their mother and the couple were immediately taken care of by the insurance which took care of providing them with a temporary solution. This Saturday morning, the couple tried to gather a few objects and clothes but the damage was considerable.
The police who also visited the scene of the fire will not open an investigation, the start of the fire being according to the first findings linked to an electrical malfunction. In less than a week, this is the third fire to occur in Tarn-et-Garonne. On the night of New Year’s Day, a house, empty of its occupants, was also destroyed by fire in Bruniquel. The next day, another house caught fire in Bressols, injuring the 80-year-old owner.
