The inmate who was holding five people in the health unit of Arles prison, in Bouches-du-Rhône, surrendered on Friday January 3, several police sources indicated. “The hostage-taker surrendered. No injuries,” indicated the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters.
The hostage taking began late in the morning. The inmate was holding five people: prison staff and four medical staff. Shortly before 3 p.m., a doctor had been released. According to prison sources, the inmate suffers from psychiatric problems.
During a press point, Pierre-Edouard Colliex, police prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, indicated that the five hostages, three nurses, a doctor and a prison guard were not physically injured. “It will be appropriate for us to follow them and they are currently being taken care of by the medical services,” he added.
