End of 2024, Netflix has invested in sports events. This new area of development should soon be accompanied by price increases.

On the night of November 15 to 16, the streaming giant broadcast live the fight between Mike Tyson, legendary boxer and Jake Paul, a famous YouTuber. This clash attracted more than 72,000 spectators to AT&T Stadium… But above all it allowed the platform to achieve a peak with 65 million simultaneous viewers.

On December 25, the company broadcast two NFL games live. Fans of the discipline were able to see the match between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens, as well as that between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Netflix press release indicates an average of more than 30 million viewers.

Building on these results, UBS analysts are convinced that the streaming giant will enrich its sports offering. They specify that this “will pave the way for price increases over time, while improving the advertising offering“.

This seems all the more logical as the firm has not increased its prices since the start of 2022 in the United States. Additionally, at a recent UBS media and communications conference, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos noted that “future price increases would be linked to increased engagement and overall value improvement [de l’offre] for members, including through live events“.

Unlike programs that you can watch whenever you want, live events manage to bring crowds together at the same time. Enough to continue to ensure peaks in viewers.
