A hostage taking is underway this Friday, January 3, 2025 within the Central House of Arles, RTL has learned. According to our information, five people would currently be retained at the level of the care unit of the penitentiary establishment: one prison staff and four medical staff. The hostage taking began late in the morning.
A priori, the detainee is in possession of a homemade weapon, that is to say a weapon that he made himself. According to prison sources, the prisoner who holds these agents against their will suffers from psychiatric problemsthe terrorist motive would therefore be ruled out. Since the central prisons bring together the convicts serving the longest sentences, we can also deduce that this prisoner would be what is commonly called a “high profile”.
Prison intervention forces have arrived on site and are trying to bring the situation under control.
