Brussels firefighters had to travel twenty times last night for small arsons across the capital. During certain interventions, firefighters were accompanied by the police, but no incident occurred.
The Brussels-North police zone (Schaerbeek/Evere/Saint-Josse-ten-Noode), however, carried out the administrative arrest of thirteen minors on Thursday afternoon on Place Verboekhoven, indicate the police and the firefighters on Friday, confirming information from Bruzz and Het Laatste Nieuws.
“We were called four times last night for shared scooters on fire, and 16 times for other small fires, mainly in trash cans,” explains Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels firefighters. “During some interventions we received help from the police, but everything remained calm.”
Thursday afternoon, the police in the Brussels-North zone once again had to intervene at Place Verboekhoven, in Schaerbeek, after a call to gather was launched on social networks. We still don't know the reason for this call, but as the afternoon and early evening progressed, small groups of young people appeared and the atmosphere became tense. “We ended up administratively arresting 13 minors to ensure security and public order,” says the Brussels police zone. They were released shortly after and, around 6:00 p.m., calm had returned to the area.
