Nintendo is preparing to formalize the Switch 2, for a launch a priori planned for the first quarter of 2025. What games will be in the line-up? We make a few bets.
We have known it for a while now: the future Nintendo console will be made official before March 31, 2025. In the meantime, rumors and leaks are multiplying to outline what should be the Switch 2, the direct continuation of the Switch released in 2017 (one of the biggest hits of all time).
We talk a lot about the characteristics of the Switch 2 (design, features, power, etc.), but much less about what will make it successful: its games. Its popularity will depend on the relevance of its catalog, both in terms of quality and quantity. All this knowing that it will be backwards compatible with Switch games (with conditions still unknown).
Here is a list of games that could be available at the same time as the Switch 2, or which would be released a few weeks after.
Games that could be released with the Switch 2
Mario Kart 9
64.27 million: this is the number of copies sold for Mario Kart 8 Deluxewhich means that more than one in three Nintendo Switch owners own it. This is a colossal statistic that proves how popular the racing game saga is. Mario Kart 8 is however a title originally published on Wii U, which certainly received content for its arrival on Switch (and even after). Nintendo could break everything by launching a Switch 2 with Mario Kart 9, an unbeatable duo on the video game shelves.
Super Mario Odyssey 2
The Switch had its Zelda, will the Switch 2 have its Mario? The most famous Nintendo mascot had waited a few months before experiencing his first 3D adventure on the hybrid console. In this sense, we could be entitled to a sequel to the flamboyant Super Mario Odysseybut without having to wait. Note, however, that Nintendo will probably not launch Mario Kart 9 and Super Mario Odyssey 2 at the same time. The same year? It’s possible.
Professor Layton and the New World on Steam
Where the hell went Professor Layton and the New World on Steamthe next investigation of the famous hero? No one knows, but it’s been a while since we saw the first trailer. Since then, there has been total silence and we say to ourselves that a return with fanfare to accompany the Switch 2 would make sense. This would allow Nintendo to vary its launch catalog.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Like Professor Layton and the New World on Steam, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was announced a long, long time ago. Except that he has recently been talked about again, which implies imminent availability. Given the ambitions, particularly graphic ones, that this new opus promises, a release on Switch 2 with better visual rendering is clearly not to be ruled out. Nintendo has already released titles that span two generations and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond could be affected. On Switch 2, the game would even be a great technological showcase to highlight.
Pokémon Legends: Z‑A
There were no major Pokémon episodes in 2024, while there were two in 2022. 2025 could mark the great return of collectible creatures. Let’s imagine a reality in which the Switch 2 comes out at the same time as Pokémon Legends: ZAwhich will take place in a city inspired by Paris. Let’s imagine the commercial tidal wave that this could cause: it would be a guaranteed success for Nintendo and Pokémon Company, two companies whose marriage has been fruitful for years.
Compilation Zelda: Breath of the Wild et Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Sometimes you have to be smart when you launch a new console, and know how to expand your catalog by doing a little recycling – an area that Nintendo masters to perfection. On this subject, it is not forbidden to consider a compilation bringing together The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild et The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomwhich would take advantage of the power of the Switch 2 to improve the gaming experience (better graphics, more consistent fluidity). Thus, fans would not shy away from their pleasure at the idea of (re)discovering these majestic epics in much better conditions.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
It’s been a while since Nintendo players have been deprived of the Call of Duty saga – one of the most popular in the world. But Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision opened the door, and the Switch 2 seems to be the ideal console to accommodate Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. After all, this opus is available on PS4 and Xbox One, and everything suggests that the Switch 2 will be at least as powerful as these two illustrious machines. From then on, there would be no more excuses.
Other games we could see in the Switch 2 line-up
- Fortnite
- Alan Wake 2
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Diablo IV
- Elden Ring
- Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy
