the essential
The latest addition to the rich Nerac rock scene, the group Coni is releasing its first track today, “Juste à passant”, on all digital platforms. Compositions in French with a 90’s post-grunge sound, carried by a Neracais, a Calignacais and a Buzéquais.

Nérac and rock are a long story, a new page of which is being written this Friday January 3, 2025 with the release of the first single from the group Coni. For a year, three musicians from Albret, fans of 90s rock, have been in this new formation.

Nicolas Lagutère (guitar – vocals) and Eric de Lavenère (bass) have already played together with the group Switch. In fact, it was when the first played his compositions to the second that the idea of forming a new group was born. In May 2024, Buzéquais drummer Julien Reau joined the Neraco-Calignac duo to create Coni.

Songs in French

Since their youth, they have listened to and played grunge, a derivative of rock which had its heyday in the 90s. “We are inspired by Foo Fighters, Nivrana, Noir Désir, Eiffel…” “Romain Humeau was my teacher playing drums when I was young”, smiles Nicolas Lagutère.

Above all, the lyricist from Coni has the specificity of writing in French. “It doesn’t happen a lot, it’s a small asset for us,” smiles the 44-year-old singer. “I feel more comfortable in the language of Molière to be able to play with words. Then I think that people who don’t speak English like to understand the words of a song.”

In his studio in Mézin, they recorded five tracks which were then mixed and mastered by a sound engineer in Belgium. “We have just received the “finished” pieces, which makes us happy.”

The release of their first EP with all five songs is scheduled for May. But until then, the rockers from Albret will release one of their songs about once a month. First release this Wednesday with the single “Just Aside”.

“Good, well-saturated guitars”

The first feedback is quite good. “Good, well-saturated guitars that are a pleasure. The voice goes really well with the music and provides a nice contrast. Congratulations on this track full of energy! It works really well”, applauds the specialized website samples.fr.

In his lyrics, Nicolas Lagutère strives to deal with “serious subjects while trying to remain light. We don’t want to make sad music.” The group precisely denies sending out essentially positive rock. “Life is sometimes heavy enough, music should be a moment of lightness.”

First concerts scheduled

The singer has already written twelve songs for his new group. At least eleven, because one of them is in fact a 20-year-old text. “I found it in my belongings. It’s a bit of a catch-all song, from a 20-year-old, who dreams of revolution and a rosy life. I kept it.” It’s also called “Following the Stars”.

In addition to the releases of its first singles, the Coni group will make its first stages in 2025. First date on January 25 at the Steady in Saint-Loubès, near . Then on February 14 during the open stages of Florida or this summer at the Kiosq’NRock festival in Mirande. Several radio stations will also broadcast their tracks in their playlists.
