Skating near the opposing net, the second-year Buffalo Sabers player fell on Wedgewood’s leg after being pushed by Parker Kelly. The Sabers forward quickly got up to recover the puck and put it in the back of a gaping cage.

Meanwhile, the Avs goalkeeper was writhing in pain and made no attempt to block his net. The officials did not whistle the game to be stopped either.
The Avalanche players didn’t like the Sabers taking advantage of their goaltender’s injury and several tried to attack Benson.
The goal was awarded by the referees, who judged that Kelly was responsible for the massacre. Wedgewood had to leave the match and was replaced by Mackenzie Blackwood.
Against all odds, the local favorites won 6-5 in overtime after trailing throughout the match. Cale Makar and Jonathan Drouin, the latter scoring with eight seconds left in regular time, were scorers in the final moments of the third period. Devon Toews scored the game-winner after just 48 seconds of overtime.
In the back, Jason Zucker completed a hat trick.
