Paris town hall has decided to reinstate the annual subsidy of 1.3 million euros granted to the private school under contract Stanislas, located in the 6th arrondissement. The controversy broke out following complaints from families, who reported price increases perceived as incompatible with the commitments made within the framework of municipal aid. These criticisms led the town hall to consider suspending the subsidy.
A social policy
An investigation by Paris town hall finally confirmed that Stanislas respected the criteria required by the municipality, particularly with regard to the implementation of a social pricing policy. The establishment, which welcomes around 3,500 students from kindergarten to higher education, applies tuition fees modulated according to family income, a practice supported by this subsidy.
The decision to restore this aid revives the debate on the distribution of public funds between public and private educational establishments. Some elected officials and community activists believe that these funds should primarily be devoted to strengthening public schools, considering that private establishments, although they play an important educational role, already benefit from diversified sources of funding.
Paris City Hall has stressed the importance of guaranteeing equity between educational establishments while respecting the commitments made with structures receiving public subsidies. The investigation and final decision demonstrate a desire to closely monitor the use of public funds, while supporting initiatives promoting educational accessibility for all Parisian children.
