Even if you have a job, a financial boost can really make the difference, with the cost of living constantly increasing, between high rents and the price of groceries. Fortunately, the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) could ease the burden for many people this January 2025.
Intended for taxpayers with modest incomes, whether they are single or in a relationship, this federal benefit offers considerable monetary support. The CRA determines your eligibility automatically when you file your tax return. So, no action is required – except to file your taxes on time!
Paid in the form of advance payments throughout the year, the ACT can help you better plan your budget for the months to come. At the start of the year, take a few minutes to explore the other benefits and credits to which you may be entitled via My Account for individuals from the CRA.

What you need to know: The amount to which you may be entitled depends on your adjusted net annual income and your family situation. Here are the maximum amounts you could receive in 2025:
- Single people without children: Up to $1,633 per year if your income does not exceed $26,855.
- Families with modest income: Up to $2,813 per year if family income is less than $30,639.
Beyond these thresholds, the amounts gradually decrease. Furthermore, single individuals earning more than $35,095 and families with income greater than $45,934 are no longer eligible in 2024 – these amounts are not yet available for 2025. These limits may also vary for taxpayers eligible for the supplement for disabled people.
You can also use the child and family benefits calculator to estimate the amount of your next payments or check if this information is available in your My Account portal for CRA individuals.
Canada Workers Benefit advance payments are spread out throughout the year, with three separate payments. For families eligible for the maximum annual amount, a sum of approximately $937 awaits them for the next payment coming in January. For singles, this amount could go up to $544 for the first month of 2025.
Here are the upcoming payment dates this year:
- January 10, 2025
- July 11, 2025
- October 10, 2025
