Teenage darts player Luke Littler has overcome the next obstacle on the path to his desired first world title. The 17-year-old Englishman clearly beat Nathan Aspinall (also English) 5-2 in the quarter-finals on New Year’s Eve and now needs just two wins to win the Sid Waddell Trophy and around 560,000 Swiss francs worth of price.

Last year’s runner-up, Littler, edged out Aspinall from the start. “The Nuke”, as Littler is known, won the first two sets straight away and was then uncatchable. In the semi-final on Thursday, he will face Stephen Bunting. The Englishman had already won comfortably 5-2 against former Scottish champion Peter Wright.

A dream final still possible

The dream final between Littler and three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen, long awaited by many experts and fans, is still possible. Van Gerwen survived a high-class match against Callan Rydz in the afternoon. Rydz managed to win more rounds and make more shots with 180 points, but he still lost the match 3:5. The Dutchman wants to win his fourth world title after 2014, 2017 and 2019.

Van Gerwen’s opponent in the semi-final will be Chris Dobey. The Englishman beat former rugby professional Gerwyn Price 5:3. The muscular 39-year-old was already leading 2-0. Price made numerous missed throws to double fields, which Dobey took advantage of. The Welshman repeatedly inflated himself in front of fans at the Ally Pally and received huge boos for it.
