On January 1, 2025, a Tesla Cybertruck literally exploded in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. An impressive explosion filmed by security cameras. Elon Musk affirms it: the Cybertruck is not the fault, and it would have helped save lives thanks to its strong resistance. Here is everything we currently know about this case.
The Tesla Cybertruck is an electric pickup truck with a large lithium battery. It is produced by Tesla, whose boss is none other than Elon Musk, who is part of Donald Trump's new government. So when a Cybertruck explodes in front of the lobby of one of Trump's hotels, things start to get fishy.
First of all, let's put things in their place: an electric car is much less likely to catch fire than a thermal car, as many studies confirm. And above all, when a car catches fire, it kisses, but does not explode in a few seconds, as was the case with the Cybertruck in Las Vegas.
A real fireworks display
You just have to watch the video to realize the exceptional nature of this explosion. Especially since the explosion gives way, in a few seconds, to fireworks! Literally.
The reason is simple to understand: fireworks mortars and fuel were stored in the pickup bed. A man was present at the wheel of the parked Cybertruck, he died as stated Numerama. There are also seven injured.
The battery is exonerated
On battery in the seconds preceding the explosion. In other words, the battery was at the correct temperature and without a short circuit, and it could not have caught fire on its own. Elon Musk specifies that his teams have “not never seen anything like this« .
Authorities have not yet ruled on a possible terrorist attack, but it is a possibility. They specify that “ smoke was immediately observed as the vehicle had just stopped in the hotel's valet parking area. A loud explosion was then heard, and fireworks were observed by witnesses« .
Firefighters, who arrived on site four minutes after the explosion, took an hour to put out the fire. But as we can see in the photos, the pickup resisted the fire very well, probably thanks to its steel body.
Moreover, the authorities indicate on glass and not from the sides or rear of the dumpster. A theory taken from Elon Musk.
The window of the hotel lobby, located only a few meters next to the pickup, was not broken, and the valet, who was standing right next to the vehicle, was not killed by the explosion or d possible debris from the car.
