A 23-year-old man was killed this Thursday in the middle of the day during an altercation at Angers station, AFP learned from the city's public prosecutor, Éric Bouillard.
“Armed with hammers”
Shortly before 1 p.m., an argument broke out between several people on the upper square of Saint-Laud station in the center of Angers. The young man found himself “faced with four people”, including two attackers “armed with hammers”, he told an AFP correspondent. The victim took refuge in the station where she was hit with “several blows with one or more blunt objects”, according to the magistrate, specifying that an investigation was opened for murder.
The young man died from his injuries despite the intervention of emergency services. No suspects were immediately arrested. An autopsy is to be carried out on Friday.
“Fear” by Béchu
On X, the mayor of Angers Christophe Béchu expressed his “fear” after the murder. “We will not give in to violence. Our city must be safe, everyone must be able to live there in safety. Justice must be as firm as possible with the murderers,” reacted the former Minister of the Environment. The investigation was handed over to the Organized and Specialized Crime Division. Part of the station was temporarily closed to the public but without impact on rail traffic.
