Carlos Sánchez, known as ‘La Roca’, will end his career in 2025 to take up the post of sporting director at San Lorenzo de Almagro. He has already received a warm welcome in Argentina.
Carlos Sánchez was one of the key players in the midfield of the Colombian national team under coach José Néstor Pékerman. Nicknamed ‘La Roca’ due to his physical power, he was instrumental during qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2018 edition in Russia, demonstrating his reliability and strength at both tournaments. With the announcement of his retirement, Argentinian media revealed his next step. Rather than move away from the world of football, Sánchez is set to join San Lorenzo de Almagro as manager.
According to reports from Argentina, San Lorenzo is in the process of restructuring both sportingly and administratively for 2025. In this context, the club is delighted to announce the appointment of Carlos Sánchez as its new sporting director now that the player confirmed his retirement. “I finished a management course, I am currently training to obtain my coaching diplomas, and I prepared myself with several languages. During his time with the Argentine club, he played 50 matches before to transfer to Barracas Central, where he announced his retirement. Originally from Quibdó, he had a brilliant career in football, representing prestigious clubs such as Aston Villa, West Ham United, Watford, Fiorentina, Espanyol, and Independiente Santa Fe.
