The Lion King, star Aaron Pierre reveals how his preparation is going on for Lanterns

Aaron Pierre is on fire. Just out of his critically acclaimed performance as young Mufasa in Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King”, this British actor is already booking his next huge project.

He is now slated to star as John Stewart-one of the most recognizable Green Lanterns-in the much-anticipated DC series “Lanterns”. The up-and-coming star shared, in a series of recent interviews, how he is prepping for this transformational act.

Just after making waves with his voice and screen presence in “Mufasa,” Pierre joins DC Universe for another milestone in his career. Fans from both franchises have their eyes glued to the screen as he takes on the role of one of DC’s most famous superheroes.

From the Pride Lands to the Green Lantern Corps

That has been great work by Pierre, especially in portraying Mufasa in Disney’s live-action prequel. He played the junior version of the iconic king and has been able to carry an emotional weight that cuts across the entire globe.

His performance has given the character a fresh angle, disclosing Mufasa’s venture from being a cub to a great leader of the Pride Lands.

In Pierre’s words, working on “Mufasa” was an exhilarating experience. While “Mufasa” is winning the hearts of its audience, Pierre has moved to focus on “Lanterns,” the next upcoming project. It will debut as part of the new DC Universe under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Lanterns will tell the story of the adventures of the Green Lantern Corps focusing on John Stewart and Hal Jordan.

Preparing to Play John Stewart

It is not an easy burden to take on that of John Stewart. The character, who debuted in 1971, has been a favorite of fans and is represented as a brave, leader-figure and a pillar of strength and integrity in the DC Universe.

Stewart, a former marine, imparts an unusual element of discipline and compassion as he takes on the weight of being a green lantern.

Pierre dedicated himself to such intense preparation for the role. He said part of it includes doing intense physical training and immersing himself in the source material.

“Most of what’s happening right now is my homework — my extensive DC homework and my physical preparation, It’s sort of familiarizing myself with things I already know, and then introducing myself to things I’m learning about. I’m mildly OCD, I’m very, very meticulous as a person, so I really want to leave no stone unturned and want to feel as prepared as I can going into this.” he shared.

He also talked about how it felt to be part of such a notable character who has much pressure and responsibility:

“DC gave me the call. I’m very grateful, very happy to be part of the team. This character is John Stewart. He’s part of the Green Lantern Corp. For me, this character has always radiated class. He’s always radiated charisma. Strength, identity. So I’m very happy to be bringing him to life in a live-action context,”

The Next Chapter after Mufasa

Aaron Pierre’s joining the cast of Lanterns, one of the flagship projects under the completely renewed DC Universe, promises well for the series. The show, directed by Jeremy Carver, is supposed to have that grounded and true detective tone, which should make it one of the finest entries to the superhero genre.

The most exciting part for fans is to see how Pierre will take on portraying the duality of John Stewart- a highly trained former Marine and a cosmic defender balancing the complexities of being a Green Lantern. His love for storytelling and commitment to his art make him the perfect choice for such a role.

Though the release date has yet to be revealed for “Lanterns”, there is already major buzz about it. After a successful run on Mufasa: The Lion King, Pierre is proving he’s one of the most versatile and compelling actors in Hollywood, preparing painstakingly for “Lanterns”.
