L’Ancienne Belgique hosts the civil servants’ ball on Thursday between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m.

They, as well as certain employees in the private sector, meet every year on the first working day of the year to let off steam in a festive atmosphere. The organizer and spokesperson for the event, Patrick Vanhopplinus, expects 1,600 people. “Last year we had a full house of guests, and I hope we will have the same number of visitors this year. But it seems that success is there.”

This event began 54 years ago and is accessible to all civil servants, private sector employees or anyone who wishes to celebrate the first day of the year by dancing.

The people present come from the banking, municipal, Flemish or Walloon administration. A little everywhere“, explains Patrick Vanhopplinus. “The concept is simple: a DJ offers music in all styles, there is something for everyone“, adds Mr. Vanhopplinus.

“Bonkers” by Dizzee Rascal and “Satisfaction” by Benny Benassi particularly excited those present.
