No more straight-cut or too-slim jeans, in 2025, the trend is for volume. Here's how to wear barrel jeans, the key piece at the start of the year.
Denim no longer has to claim its fashion status. What makes it successful? Its ability to renew its cut and style according to trends. If last season, jeans were worn more minimalist, we now dare to try other, more daring versions, like barrel jeans. Also called “balloon” cut jeans, as its name suggests, this model hugs the hips and tightens at the ankles and becomes loose on the side of the legs, offering volume to the silhouette. A cut that is gradually appearing on the catwalks, like those of Alaïa for fall-winter 2024-2025 and Acne Studios for spring-summer 2025. Subversive, it divides with its singular cut but still has a large stylistic potential.

How to wear barrel jeans?
Loose on the sides, this model offers a lot of volume on the lower part of our body and can therefore seem difficult to wear. On the contrary, various options are available to us as to how to adopt it without style fault. To begin with, it is preferable to avoid tops that are too loose and instead focus on pieces that are close to the body or well cut, in order to avoid losing elegance and deconstructing your silhouette. For this, we take inspiration from the Acne Studios spring-summer 2025 show and opt for a close-fitting top with floral prints and choose dark gray denim to go beyond the classic blue jeans. Otherwise a black fine knit top, for example, will be just as ideal for a minimalist and sophisticated look. In addition to classic or printed tops, the total denim look definitely works with this model. Spotted at Alaïa or Boyedoe, we choose our outfit in raw or light denim, accessorized with a belt and a leather bag. At Gucci, we play with styles and combine barrel jeans with bohemian style, a combo that works to perfection. The look consists of rather light denim pants, adorned with a thin brown belt, combined with a loose white shirt, revealing its lace underwear (preferably colored). To accessorize everything, we opt for suede, very trendy this season, with a pair of ballerinas and an XXL tote bag. A look that is both chic and effortless. On the feet, the choice of shoes is just as important. With barrel jeans, choose an elegant model, like a pair of pointed heels which will give the illusion that your legs have become longer. Otherwise, opt for a pair of low-top sneakers, a safe, trendy and comfortable bet.
