A bean for 850 euros! This is the price of each of the two diamonds to be discovered in the king cakes of Pains du Soleil in Cabestany and Saint-Estève.
Beans worth gold! And even more. What a nice start to 2025 for the epiphany. The two bakeries “Les Pains du Soleil” in Cabestany and Saint-Estève, near Perpignan, offer two diamonds which are the beans from two galettes des rois sold on site. “We bought two diamonds from a jeweler in the department for a value of 1700 euros for both (850 each) and we are giving them away to our customers who buy galettes des rois in our two bakeries. There is one diamond to be won per site”, deciphers Jérôme Bonneau, creator of the brand.

“Concretely, we did not hide a diamond in a cake, that could have been dangerous, but we placed beans marked “gain!” in the two cakes concerned,” he specifies. “The winner then comes back with this bean and they will be given the diamond.” The operation continues until January 31. “Unless by then, the two diamond beans are discovered of course.”

Jérôme Bonneau is not his first attempt. He had already launched an operation of this type when he was a baker in Elne, around fifteen years ago. “It was a hit.” Since then, he has transformed his Illiberian store into a workshop which produces a special bread for burger professionals marketed under the brand “The crumb of taste”. And opened, with his son, two stores in Cabestany and Saint-Estève.
