It is in November 2023 that the troop of “Starmania” made its premiere at the Seine Musicale, for a fourth stage version of the legendary rock opera created in 1979 by Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon, directed by Thomas Jolly which we have time to talk about during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. show met with incredible success, the director confided his great sadness to our colleagues at Parisian after discovering that the show was going on hiatus. Indeed, he explained that this interruption occurs at “at a somewhat abrupt moment”. And to specify: “I created and directed this showbut for a year, the production has kept me very far from its decisions, from the changes in distribution, which I don't really understand. I learned like you that there was a break with this press release. And I didn't expect it. I imagined it would run for five or six years.”
Thomas Jolly surprised by an important decision for his show
It was on December 17 that the news was announced via a press release without Thomas Jolly being notified in advance. Aurélien Binder, the co-producer for Fimalac Entertainment, explained to Parisian : “It's a break. It was necessary after two particularly intense years and incredible success. It's the end of the French-speaking chapter, but it's not the end quite simply. We're storing all the material for the future”. Disappointed and completely incomprehensible, Thomas Jolly added to our colleagues: “I’m sad and a little haggard. I deplore that there is visibly a heaviness, that everything is complicated, whereas every time I go to see this show, it is in fact very simple. It knocks down the rooms, people are rushing around and applauding wildly.”
He throws a spade during the Bravos d’or
“There really is a mystery, as if there was an obstacle to achieving one's goal of the greatest sharing and to continue playing, because I believe that there are still people who want to see it”, he regretted. Coming to receive his Bravo d'or on the set of France 2 on Wednesday January 1, precisely for the staging of the new adaptation of the musical comedy 'Starmania', the artist launched a new dig at the production of the show which gathered more than 1.2 million spectators in two years. “I wish it wouldn’t stop, but unfortunately, it’s not me who decides”he confided.
