“We had reported a violent fire in a 12-story apartment building, several calls, the possibility of people jumping into the void, so we sent a lot of resources right away.” Wednesday January 1, the firefighters of Seine-Maritime were very numerous around the building located at 13 rue César Franck, in Rouen, as reported Paris Normandy. Mobilized on this major fire, the firefighters had to rescue numerous victims.
According to our colleagues, the disaster left one dead and forty injured, including around twenty evacuated to Rouen hospital. Most had inhaled thick black smoke which had spread into the common areas of the building. “From the tenth floor, we could no longer see anything because of the smoke,” a resident told our colleagues.
An apartment was destroyed by the flames and 59 people who were in the building when the fire broke out were evacuated. The origin of the fire is currently unknown. An investigation was opened to try to determine the causes of the disaster. Around sixty firefighters were mobilized for the intervention which continued into the evening.

Rumors of people jumping out of windows turned out to be unfounded. It turned out to be a window that had exploded from the heat.
