Performance improvement and AI integration
LG’s Gram laptop line is receiving a series of updates ahead of CES 2025. These new models prioritize AI integration and performance improvements, while retaining the portability that makes them characterizes.
The lineup includes four new additions: two variants of the Gram Pro, a new Gram Pro 2-in-1, and an entry-level Gram Book. The first variant of the Gram Pro is equipped with an Intel Core H series processor (Arrow Lake), suitable for typical laptop tasks and even some games. A second model employs an Intel Core Ultra V-series chip (Lunar Lake), specifically designed for AI workloads. The latter model is classified as a Microsoft Copilot+ PC, integrating AI features such as Recall, Live Captions, Cocreator and Windows Studio Effects.
AI features across the range
Even without opting for the Copilot+ variant, users will benefit from LG’s AI features on most of the new models (except the Gram Book). These features are categorized into two groups: on-device AI tasks and cloud-based AI tasks. Features on the device include a simplified chatbot derived from LG’s EXAONE broad language model, as well as LG’s Time Travel feature, which is reminiscent of Microsoft’s Recall. This feature allows users to find previously viewed web pages, documents, videos and audio files.
Cloud-based AI features include Gram Chat Cloud, a more sophisticated chatbot powered by GPT-4o that can integrate with calendar and email services. The Gram Pro features a 17-inch (Arrow Lake) or 16-inch (Lunar Lake) screen with a 2560 x 1600 LCD display and a variable refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Both versions offer up to 32 GB of RAM (LPDDR5X Max 8,400 MHz, dual channel) and 2 TB of storage. The Arrow Lake model, equipped with an RTX 4050 graphics card, should be a capable gaming laptop.
Various configurations for the entire range
In contrast, the AI/Lunar Lake model relies solely on integrated Intel graphics, but has a lighter weight of 2.73 pounds, compared to 3.26 pounds for the Arrow Lake model. LG received a CES 2025 Innovation Award for the latest Gram Pro 2-in-1.
The top configuration of this 2-in-1 has a 16-inch screen with a 2,880 x 1,800 OLED display (120Hz variable refresh rate), while the lower-end variants make do with a 2560 x 1600 LCD screen (144 Hz VRR). It includes a wireless rechargeable stylus and, as the name suggests, can be transformed into tablet mode. Finally, the Gram Book is an entry-level model intended to strengthen LG’s presence in the American market. Its screen is a less impressive 15.6-inch LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Its Intel Core i5 processor paired with integrated Intel graphics and up to 16 GB of RAM makes it the least powerful model in the range. Additionally, it is the heaviest at 3.75 pounds.
