It was possible to find several partner comments on old posts from players such as defenders Sam Dickinson and Andrew Gibson, who made costly errors in the quarter-final match against Czechia.
Dickinson notably redirected the puck into his own net with his hand at the start of the period and Gibson allowed the Czechs to score in the final moments of the game, Thursday, by receiving a penalty.
“Well done Sam! You had to put the puck in your own net with your hand. Your tournament was a complete joke,” wrote a furious user under a photo of Dickinson, who was selected at 11e ranked by the San Jose Sharks in the last draft.
“11th overall with feet like that. Bonk and Dickinson, what a disaster. Good tournament guys, great way to embarrass our country,” another person added.
However, it was possible to see comments from Canadians who came to the defense of these young players, particularly aged 18 and 19, pointing out this hatred on social networks.
“These comments are horrible. You are all a bunch of sad and insecure people, hiding behind their phones to intimidate a teenager,” notably denounced an ÉCJ supporter on a photo of Adrew Gibson.
It was also possible to see hateful comments on the Instagram page of Cole Beaudoin, who received a game misconduct in the quarterfinals for kneeing Petr Sikora.
