The second part of the 2024-2025 television season will begin in a few days. The American channels will put some of their paused series back on the air but will also launch new ones. ABC will offer, for example, from Wednesday January 8, 2025, its new family sitcom Shifting Gears.
Tim Allen and Kate Dennings, ABC’s new Wednesday duo
After having played Santa Claus again in Super Christmas: The Series on Disney+, Tim Allen (who is also Buzz Lightyear at Disney) returns in a comedy sitcom on ABC. This time, he shares the poster with Kat Dennings known as the eccentric Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Shifting Gearsthey play a father and his daughter who will reunite after years of distance. Here is the trailer for Shifting Gears.
Shifting Gears suit Matt (Tim Allen), a widowed father who owns an old car restoration store who sees his daughter Riley (Kat Dennings). Having become a divorced mother herself, she returned to the family home with her two children. Father and daughter try to reconnect after years of distance.
Carter and Georgia, Riley’s children will be played by the young actors Maxwell Simkins (Little Champions: Game Changers) et Barrett Margolis.
The cast is completed by Old William Scott (American Pie) in the role of Gabriel, Mac’s associate, Daryl ‘Chill’ Smith as Ed Stitch, another of Matt’s employees. Brenda Song (Dollface) et Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg) respectively play Caitlyn, a former school friend of Riley, and Eve Drake, a director of a dance school.

Shifting Gears is a series 20th Television created by Mike et Julie Thacker Scully (Duncanville) who also signed the pilot episode. Michelle Nader is the showrunner and executive producer. The other executive producers of this series are Tim Allen, Kat Dennings, Mike Scully, Julie Thacker Scully, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker et Rick Messina. The pilot episode was directed by Josh Paquin.
Shifting Gears will be launched on January 8 on ABC. We do not yet know if the series will be broadcast in France.
