TikTok. The countdown is on for the social network TikTok. On January 19, if Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok, does not sell the platform to an American company, it will disappear from the territory. Content creators are already starting to say goodbye to the platform, asking their subscribers to follow them on other social networks so as not to lose their jobs. For their part, users are also sad, because they do not know on which platform to find entertainment like on TikTok.
When all hope seemed lost, on January 14, the world’s first YouTuber, MrBeast, affirmed that he might buy the TikTok application, so that it does not disappear permanently from American territory.
MrBeast was contacted by several “billionaires”, after expressing his wish to buy TikTok
TikTok represents more than 170 million monthly users in the United States, and other platforms, like Meta and YouTube, are preparing to welcome its lost users, looking for entertainment. For example, YouTube increased the length of Shorts from 60 seconds to 3 minutes. As for Meta, nearly 40% of American advertising budgets redirected after the ban on TikTok should return to them, according to eMarketer.
In order to save TikTok on American soil, Jimmy Donalson, aka MrBeast, who has a fortune of more than 500 million dollars, offered to buy TikTok. “Okay, that’s it, I’m going to buy TikTok so that the app isn’t banned,” he wrote. In the comments, users take this tweet as a joke, recalling that Elon Musk will also be on the case, even if this rumor was denied by TikTok on BBC News. But, it seems that this idea has made billionaires react, and therefore this scenario of the takeover of TikTok by MrBeast could see the light of day. “Unironically, I’ve had so many billionaires contact me since I tweeted that. Let’s see if we can succeed in doing it,” he rejoices.
Among the contenders for the takeover of TikTok, we also find the American entrepreneur Frank McCourt, owner of the Olympique de Marseille football club. He announced that he had officially submitted a takeover proposal for the social network on January 9, called “The People’s Offer for TikTok”.
