The army command announced on Tuesday that it had “begun to strengthen security measures as part of its operational missions”. The Lebanese army also announced that it had implemented “exceptional security measures in different Lebanese regions on the occasion of the New Year”.
In a statement published on the X platform, the army warned “against shootings which constitute a danger to the lives of citizens and a threat to public security under penalty of legal proceedings”. In this context, she called on “citizens to cooperate with the security measures taken in order to preserve public safety and prevent conflicts”.
The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) also issued a statement in the run-up to New Year's Eve, warning against the dangerous practice of celebratory gunfire, common during parties and various events. The ISF warned that such behavior could lead to deaths, serious injuries and widespread fear among citizens, especially children. Additionally, celebratory gunfire can cause significant damage to properties, vehicles, solar panels, and other assets.
The ISF also highlighted the risks posed by firing in the vicinity of the airport, where stray bullets frequently land on airport grounds and runways, posing a serious threat to the security of civil aviation and endangers the lives of passengers.
In this context, the ISF urged citizens to refrain from engaging in this dangerous practice in order to preserve public safety and announced that specialized units would pursue individuals involved in such incidents, in collaboration with the apparatus judicial.
Additionally, the ISF encouraged citizens to report any incidents of shootings. Violations can be documented by photos or videos and submitted using the “Report” function on the official ISP website. Citizens can also contact local operating rooms by dialing 112.
