Cristiano Ronaldo's criticism of Ligue 1
At the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony, the Portuguese won awards as the best player in the Middle East and top scorer in history. However, he made a statement which sparked the ire of Ligue 1 supporters: “The Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, of course. In France, there is only PSG. The rest are in agony. Try running when it’s 38, 39, 40 degrees and you’ll see…”said Cristiano.
He also added: “It is difficult to be champion in Saudi Arabia. This year, Al-Hilal is better, Al-Ittihad is leading the league, but I think we have to fight to be champions.”

Following these statements, Adil Rami was quick to react: “He’s talking nonsense. Do you want me to show you images of defenders in Saudi Arabia? Just because he had an exceptional career doesn't mean what he says is true. I think it’s a communications maneuver, a marketing strategy.”
