The Americans pay tribute to their President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday December 29 at the age of 100. Several dozen wreaths are laid in front of the Jimmy Carter Center, the flag is at half-mast and the Empire State Building is illuminated. In a single term, Jimmy Carter became an expert in geopolitical negotiations after the historic handshake of the Camp David Accords in 1979.
All the American presidents still alive and who succeeded him were quick to bow to his long existence. Joe Biden greeted “a man of our time, of all times and who embodies the most fundamental human values”. Donald Trump also thanked his predecessor and told him “a great recognition”. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, Jimmy Carter was building housing for the homeless a few years ago.
