Iron Lily’s journey: A little heroine facing leukemia | Imagine for Margo

At just 8 years old, Lily, affectionately nicknamed “Iron Lily”, showed extraordinary courage in her fight against leukemia. It all started with ear pain, but the diagnosis that followed changed his life and that of his family. Since then, she has faced the illness every day with incredible resilience.

It is with a mischievous smile that she recounts the origin of her nickname: “The first time I needed blood, I was told it was Iron Man’s. Since then, I have been Iron Lily! » This nickname perfectly embodies the strength and determination that Lily shows in the face of this ordeal.

The shock of the diagnosis and the start of the fight

A simple medical visit for minor pain quickly gave way to a much more serious reality. At Trousseau Hospital, tests revealed leukemia. Lily then had to begin a grueling care journey, marked by transfusions, heavy treatments and prolonged hospitalizations.

Deprived of school for an entire year, Lily was nevertheless able to enjoy moments of respite thanks to the facilitators and teachers who came to see her in the hospital. Despite the side effects of chemotherapy and the many daily challenges, she found reasons to smile, whether through organized activities or small impromptu parties with the nurses.

Inner strength and unfailing optimism

What sets Lily apart is her ability to remain optimistic despite everything. “Even when things aren’t going well, we have to try to do things that make us happy,” she explains. Today, she is delighted to gradually return to a normal life, in particular by returning to school.

Among the objects that help her gain courage, Lily mentions a bracelet given to her by a nurse. This small gesture, symbolic but powerful, reminds her that she is never alone in this fight.

Raise awareness to heal faster

Lily carries a strong message: it is essential to raise public awareness about childhood cancer. She dreams of a future where treatments will be less invasive and cures faster. “If we raise awareness among more people, we might be able to cure children more easily and quickly,” she hopes.

“Go, Fight, Win”: hope for a better future

Lily’s mantra, “Go, Fight, Win”, sums up her state of mind: move forward, fight and believe in victory against the disease. Supported by her loved ones and the medical team, she embodies the hope of thousands of children facing similar challenges.
