In the world of German quizzes, nothing is the same anymore! On Saturday evening (December 28), Kai Pflaume presented the big annual review “2024 – The Quiz” and everything seemed as usual – except for a small but subtle detail that caused a stir among viewers.
In this TV classic, which illuminated the biggest events and most emotional moments of 2024, quiz giants such as Barbara Schöneberger, Florian Silbereisen, Jan Josef Liefers and Günther Jauch competed against each other. But as the guessing foxes battled for the annual championship title, it was the seemingly innocuous tone that characterized the evening.
EAST makes a splash in the ARD quiz
One viewer asked another to add: “Only Gottschalk and Schöneberger are allowed to do that!” But why the two in particular?

The explanation lies in the popular RTL show “Because they don’t know what’s going on”, in which the trio Jauch, Gottschalk and Schöneberger regularly make people laugh. Their relaxed tone is the order of the day there, and that now seems to have crept into the ARD format. To the great dismay of some viewers!
But beyond the debate on the first name, the show offered everything one could want: from the American elections to the Paris Olympic Games via the UEFA European Football Championship – the variety of subjects left nothing to be desired. But the real talking point of the evening was clearly the little ill-advised change in language.
