It was a great moment for the goalkeeper Jakub Dobes Saturday afternoon, while playing his first NHL game.
Everything happened very quickly in the last hours, first the young goalkeeper was recalled from the Laval Rocket, then we learned that Cayden Primeau had not traveled with the team to Florida.
Following this announcement, the possibility of Primeau being placed on waivers became more and more likely and that is exactly what happened at 2:00 p.m. today.
So it was a first game with the Canadian for Dobes and he did things in a big way, collecting a shutout against the powerful Panthers.
He faced 33 shots and gave nothing away. The Canadian scored 4 goals including 2 of Kirby Dach to escape with a nice 4-0 victory.
The 23-year-old Czech was treated to the traditional solo moment during the pre-match warm-up.
He then blocked everything. It was only the 4th time in Canadian history that a rookie goalie collected a shutout in his first game. The last one to achieve the feat was Yann Danis in 2005.
