Scottie Scheffler injured his right hand on a broken glass while preparing Christmas dinner, forcing him to withdraw from the first tournament of the PGA Tour season in Hawaii.

“Scottie suffered an injury to the palm of his right hand from broken glass,” Scheffler manager Blake Smith said in a statement Friday. Small fragments of glass remained in the palm, requiring surgery. He was told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. »
The world number one has withdrawn from the Sentry, the winners-only tournament which will take place from January 2 to 5 at Kapalua Resort. His next tournament is scheduled to be the American Express, Jan. 16-19, in La Quinta, California.
Last season, Scheffler won the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, given to the PGA Tour player of the year, in a landslide, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to win the award three times in a row.
His seven PGA Tour victories include a second Masters title. He also became the first player in history to win the Players Championship two years in a row.
He won an Olympic gold medal by shooting 62 on the final day, and also got his hands on the FedEx Cup.
