The world number one has withdrawn from the Sentry, the winners-only tournament which will take place from January 2 to 5 at Kapalua Resort. His next tournament is scheduled to be the American Express, Jan. 16-19, in La Quinta, California.

Last season, Scheffler won the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, given to the PGA Tour player of the year, in a landslide, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to win the award three times in a row.

His seven PGA Tour victories include a second Masters title. He also became the first player in history to win the Players Championship two years in a row.

He won an Olympic gold medal by shooting 62 on the final day, and also got his hands on the FedEx Cup.
