the essential
A common food fund will be created in Saverdun. Residents are invited to a meeting on January 12, during which the project will be presented to them.

Agnès Duguine, sustainable food project manager, and Romain Clappier, coordinator of the common food fund, an association supported by the PETR Ariège Pyrénées, are implementing this new concept in the commune, the fruit of work carried out by the Local Food Council since the launch of the territorial food project in 2021.

What is a common food fund? Citizens are building a pot to guarantee everyone access to local products, good for health and the environment, to support farmers who find outlets in short circuits and are paid at the right price, to regain their right to food by experimenting with food democracy.

Participants are invited to contribute 2.5% of their net monthly income, upon simple declaration based on trust. At the same time, they must register with an approved grocery store to create a customer account. The fund pays each grocery store 50 euros per month for each registered participant. The grocery store credits this amount to the participants’ customer accounts. In Saverdun, the farmer’s drive and the Brie grocery store are joining the operation.

Public meeting on January 12

In order to raise awareness of this initiative, residents are invited to the school on January 18, at 12 p.m., to share a free meal prepared with local products distributed by the farm drive service providers.

Agnès and Romain elaborate: “We hope to welcome many guests to this meal which will also be an opportunity to organize ourselves to keep the fund alive throughout the territory, with grocery stores, associations, residents… It will also be the opportunity to concretely present the origins and functioning of the fund, as well as the proposals it makes to set up a new solidarity initiative.”

Registration is mandatory before January 10 via this form in order to avoid any waste:
